My 15 Year Old Daughter was Killed in a head on collision with a car on her e-bike on July 28, 2025.
I watched reporting on the news in Detroit and then it went National simply because it was about a 15 year old girl on an electric bike that was killed in Port Huron in a head on collision with a car.
She died instantly.
According to witnesses that I talked to the next morning, the collision was so hard, so fast, and so loud that they said my daughter never had a chance and “NEVER KNEW WHAT HIT HER” That was very hard to hear and then visualize…

It was the brutality of the collision that affected the reporting.
Every parent’s worst nightmare- is to have to somehow visualize that level of trauma that their child experiences- and reconcile the moment you realize they faced that terror all alone for that one brief second that you weren’t there to protect them.

And all of a sudden, Your Child becomes the pathfinder, for our greatest fear. Instant death with NO LAST WORDS.
We as parents are the ones dedicated to pave that road for our children. And that did not happen on July 28th, 2025 .
It shocked me to see the level of coverage that America gave to my daughter, and it was very humbling. And I am GRATEFUL.
I’m her Father. Her name is Naya,

To honor my daughter’s life I’ve tried to contact Governor Whitmer (Michigan) to petition for stricter guidelines for under 18 kids riding e-bikes.

Therefore ALL DONATIONS will go towards that effort.
I have amazing FAITH in our Governor because she is so very straight up- and applies human values to every decision she makes.
I have conducted my entire life to saving lives: as an EMT in Highschool, as A Navy Hospital Corpsman, as a Surgical First Assistant, and as a Cardiovascular Perfusionist. I’ve helped save and/or improve so many many lives… but I couldnt save my daughter.

I’m hoping that if there is change in part because of the National coverage of the death of my daughter- that the legislation be named after my daughter: Naya’s Rule:
That’s NOT for false valor. That is to give meaning to her death and make her life count. Any Father would do this. Any parent would want to make some sense of having to live on- after losing a child. So I can’t fight for myself- but I choose to fight for Naya.
Cuz she fought for me.

I work on an Open Heart Team as the Chief Perfusionist. It’s what I do.
This link is to a blog post I put up for my daughter Naya Aprile.
